When you think of fall, no doubt the first food you think of is pumpkin. Dare we say it? We are living in a world saturated with pumpkin! If you're visiting the South Sound this autumn, don't forget that Washington is the largest apple-producing state in the country. Time to embrace the underdog of fall produce with baked apples, apple butter, and yes, the incredible experience of biting into a perfectly crisp and juicy apple just plucked from the tree. We also have options for fermented apples (cider!), launching apples over long distances, and apples in one of their finest forms—the donut.

They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. In the South Sound, make sure it falls into your mouth.

Apple Picking

Curran Apple Orchard

Curran Apple Orchard, University Place

Apple picking is perfect for two types of people: those of us who have always dreamed of putting on our best fall outfit and taking some amazing pictures with apple trees and a basket of apples in the background, and those of us who are there solely for the goods. No matter which type of person you are, Curran Apple Orchard is a must-visit this fall. They have cider pressings where you can sip on fresh cider, and over 200 trees with 15 different types of apples! If you go and love it, they also have an “adopt-a-tree” program where you pick out a tree to “adopt” and it’s reserved for just you and your family for the next season!
